Profession:

Describe your childhood/growing years:

I remember that when I was 8, I was very shy but at the same time I was full of life. I have been always curious about the world around me, and at that time my mother told me that I asked too many questions for my age, that I was too young to understand and that one day I would be able to understand. When I was 11 years old I was afraid to go to middle school but finally everything has gone well and I have made friends. At 13 it was particularly difficult because I went through a teenage crisis. I was feeling anxious but I don’t know exactly why. In short, I had a happy childhood and a good education.

What lessons did you learn from your childhood/growing years?

During my childhood and my growing years I learned one important thing; that nothing can replace the love of a family. I think that family is the most important thing in the world. On the other hand because you share everything with them, you share your sadness, your anger aside from your joy. And it’s a priority to spend a lot of time with people the you love, and its also important to have education in the children’s life. I had the chance to grow up with a loving family who supported me in all my choices, and the love we give to them will be same one we must give to mother earth because without earth we lose everything.

What is your most memorable moment?

My most memorable moment was when I won the title of Miss Earth Reunion Island and had the chance to be crowned by Olga Alava, Miss Earth 2011. It was a moment of joy and I still cannot realize that it happened. But the most important was that my family was there to support me.

What is your environmental advocacy and why did you choose it?

My environmetal advocacy is to alert people about the Pacific Ocean “Garbage Patch”, also describe as the Pacific Trash Vortex, which is threatening to become one of the great ecological disasters of our time. In fact, plastic constitutes about 90% of all trash floating in the world’s oceans. More than 18,500 pieces per km2 of plastic marine debris affect at least 267 species worldwide. Some of these long-lasting plastics end up in the stomachs of marine birds and fishes. Many of these fishes are then consumed by humans, resulting in their ingestion of toxic chemicals. Considering this ecological disaster we urgently need to develop a campaign in order to highlight the damage garbage is doing to our waterways, marine life and oceans, and to rescue marine biodiversity in the most effective way. We need to defend our oceans because without them life on Earth cannot exist.

What tip can you share to promote sustainable energy for all?

To promote sustainable energy my tip is to develop alternative sources of energy such as hydroelectricity, solar energy, wind energy, wave energy, geothermal energy, and tidal energy. These are natural, ecological and not dangerous types of energy in contrast, for example, with nuclear power plants which release radioactivity very harmful to the whole planet. Furthermore, this sustainable provision of energy meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their needs.
