What environmental project will you create to promote the protection of Mother Earth and why?
Project name: “Bikes for everyone”
Details: The aim of this project is to attract people to give up using their personal cars and to replace them with bikes in cities. The project is a combination of two main goals: raising awareness and replacing car usage with biking. For the first part of the project, many courses with the purpose of raising awareness will be held, for enthusiastic volunteers in public places or specially laid out areas. For the second part of the project, the practical side, main parking spaces for bikes will be created in downtown and in various neighborhoods of the city, where people can pick up a bike and leave it in another “bike parking” from the same project. This will encourage people to use their cars only for longer rides outside the city and to use bikes for the central area. In the same time the students and young people will have the possibility to use bikes without owning them.
What makes you proud of your country and what can you promote about it?
My country Romania, makes me proud for a various number of reasons, as it is surprising and wonderful altogether. Of course the thing that characterizes a country in the best way is the people that live in it. I am thankful to have so many role models from Romania that have succeeded in life in diverse fields. People like Nadia Comaneci, who received the first perfect 10 in history for gymnastics at the Olympic games, Maya Morgenstein who impersonated Saint Mary in the movie “Jesus Passions” or Traian Vuia who invented the first airplane in 1906. Our country is also incredibly spectacular for the geographical wonders received from Mother Earth, as we pose as one of world’s wonders: The Danube Delta, thatshelter over 3000 species of fish and birds, that exist only in this area. Our incredible mountains and meadows, and incredible types of lakes.
Describe your childhood/growing years:
My childhood years are incredible memories that I remember dearly. All my early memories include my sister Carmen, who is 9 years older than me, and was like a second mother to me when I was 5 years old. Playing games, dancing with her on her knees in order to get taller, singing and helping my mother in the kitchen are all very alive memories to me. A very significant person in my life at that period, alongside my parents is my kindergarten teacher, who taught me how to be a good actress and excellent in English. She helped me discover one of my dearest talents, drama. My parents in all my childhood have made great efforts to widen my horizons, that is why I am so lucky to have travelled a lot from that early age.
What lessons did you learn from your childhood/growing years?
One of the most valuable lessons that I have learned in my growing years is to help the others if you have the capability. Since I can remember my mother and I helped out at church every Sunday with my sister. Saturdays at Bible hour, I met people with great needs, and felt better about myself as a person, for being able to help them. Another important lesson in my life that I learned at the fragile age of 6, is to take care of mother earth and to be eco. On my first visit to Germany, one of my father’s partners took me and my family to his personal farm, where he was practicing this new concept: ecological farming. This incident happened almost 15 years ago, when in Romania the concept of “eco” was practically non-existent. With the lesson I learned so early, I was able to appreciate and encourage every form of environmental project that I have involved myself in ever since.
What is your most memorable moment?
My most memorable memory is from 2 years ago, when I had the honor to win the first place at the “Monologue Contest” in English at national level. The thing that makes me so proud in relation to this prize is the fact that I also wrote and dramatically interpreted the monologue, all the concept being original and mine from scratch. I was very proud to write a monologue about the “fair trade” project, being something new to my country, but it was a true reward to be appreciated by an international jury and to receive the prize. The thing that made me the happiest girl, was the fact that my parents were in the theatre when they announced the winner.
What is your environmental advocacy and why did you choose it?
My environmental advocacy is the education of the younger generation into understanding the importance of respecting mother earth and conserving the environment. It is very important for them to become conscious of the fact that our environment and the changes that happen within it, natural disasters and catastrophes are due to our direct actions. My main worry is sustainable development for the planet, we have to raise awareness among the youth in order for them to understand that our planets resources are wearing out and if we don’t take care of them, or use them all out, there will be none left for the generations to come. Including courses about environmental issues into the educational system is imperative, in order to obtain results in the future.
What tip can you share to promote sustainable energy for all?
The tip that I can share to promote sustainable energy is that every country should find their strong points, even if we are talking about wind power, water fall, etc in order to take advantage of these natural wonders and transform them in pure energy. We have to treasure the natural gift from mother earth and help our countries to use them in a nonpolluting way and to gain clean energies through these methods. I also think that countries with a wider geographical area could have a real chance at producing bio-fuel if the necessary plants should be grown.
Other information that you would like to share with the Miss Earth Management:
I would like the Miss Earth management to know, that I am a very independent, open minded person with a very strong will power. The fact that I have won the Miss Earth Romania title is already an honor for me, but being able to represent Romania in the world finals is a wish come true. I have always been a pro active person involved in projects, or created and coordinated personal environmental projects. The fact that I will be participating in the Miss Earth pageant will give me even more visibility in my country and open more opportunities for me to help Romania get involved in ecological actions.
